The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has been at the forefront of the gaming community since its original release in 2011. Skyrim set a new standard for future role-playing games (RPGs) and all video games in general. Here’s 5 reasons why Skyrim has aged so well.
Story
1. Skyrim has a compelling story about dragons(who doesn’t love dragons??) and a huge open world environment. After the tutorial, the player is free to explore and take on all kinds of quests in any order they’d like.
Choices
2. An aspect of this game which aged well is the choices the player can make. Lots of games have since incorporated this game mechanic into modern games. The biggest choice the player can make is in regards to the civil war taking place.
Playstyle
3. The player chooses how they fight. They can choose from using magic, swords/axes or even archery. These different choices allow players to create different “builds” and replay the game numerous times in different ways. Of course, there’s an entire community dedicated to Skyrim Builds.
Mods for Skyrim
4. Like most games, the community has taken it upon themselves to create mods. And there are literally THOUSANDS. Modding is a big reason this game hasn’t died. Skyrim also included a tool known as “Creation Club” in one of its re-releases, a solution to using mods on consoles.
Survival Mode
5. And the latest re-release debuted in November of 2021, added a Survival mode to the popular RPG. Survival games have performed very well in the past few years. Although this will buy Bethesda Game Studios more time for players to enjoy Skyrim as development has started on the Elder Scrolls 6.
