Killer Klowns from Outer Space is a cult classic that has been on my watchlist for a very long time. I decided that it’d probably be even more enjoyable under the influence, and I was right.
Now the first thing to grab my attention about this movie was the music. It mixes circus music with electric guitar and the flow is actually amazing.
Characters
These characters are very entertaining to watch. There’s a pair of brothers who drive an ice cream truck and they try to pick up girls by offering them ice cream. They have a great on screen dynamic and they really seemed like brothers with their bickering.
Although at times, the acting is soooo cringy. But being high just completely circumvents the issue and just adds to the hilarity of this movie.
As for the “klowns”, there is so much variety in them. I thought there might’ve been three or four tops. But there were at least twelve klowns all with different sets of makeup and clown suits. It was also unclear to me at first glance if the actors were actually wearing makeup or if they were just wearing masks.
Effects
Being that these “klowns” come from outer space, they have a spaceship that looks like a circus tent. Within this “tent” there are loads of future tech, when it’s being used it comes off as lightning. But it doesn’t look as bad as you might expect it to.
Kills
Considering the fact these are “killer klowns”, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they kill a plethora of people. But it’s the way these people get killed for me. some klowns shoot their prey with a ray gun and a weird popcorn gun. One of the coolest kills is by Shorty, he jumps into the air and gets a pair of boxing gloves and uppercuts a biker’s head clean off. I couldn’t stop laughing whenever he came on screen. It was a blast the entire time he showed up, from taking that biker’s head off in one punch to when he came out of the pizza box with the ray gun. But to be honest it’s pretty difficult to pin down one specific kill as the best. They’re all really fun to watch.
One of my favorite scenes, was the parade scene. The klowns have their own parade float going down the street in one scene. There’re streamers and everything it looks like it’d be real fun to watch in person. The klowns load the cocoons onto the float in a short montage. Another interesting thing about this movie is the final scene. A giant “boss” klown shows up and the entire scene just feels like the final Bowser battle in literally every Mario game to-date.
B- Movie
Now it seems obvious from the title, but this is a definitely a B movie. It mixes horror and comedy in the best way. I haven’t seen this good of a B movie in a very long time. There’s no wonder this film is a cult classic, it’s hard to imagine it not being one after seeing it.
Killer Klowns Sequel?
At the moment it seems as if the ship has sailed on a sequel to this cult classic film. But franchises can always be revived thanks to fans. Hell, that’s how Family Guy got back on TV after it was cancelled. We just need to let the studio know there is still a demand for the sequel that never came to be.
5/5
As for this movie, I loved it. It was such an enjoyable experience. Now I wouldn’t say you’d NEED to be under the influence to enjoy this movie, but it definitely won’t hurt. It just makes the kills funnier and it makes you think about these scenes in a different way.
