Gran Turismo 7 is the first release of the franchise to be released for PS5. Gran Turismo is Playstation’s flagship racing franchise very similar to Xbox’s Forza Motorsport. My first impression of this game was, “this looks incredible”. I’ve never played a game from this series before so I didn’t know what to expect from the gameplay.
Interface
The tutorial is a little extensive and overwhelming at first, but anything you need to do is pretty simple to navigate to. The interface of the game can be confusing, it’s laid out like a map and you use a cursor to highlight where you want to go, i.e. (World Races, Cafe, Photomode). However, like most things the more you use it the more familiar you become.
Cars
Obviously since this game is heavily involved around racing and cars, it makes sense to base the game around collecting cars. This is done through the Cafe, the owner of the Cafe provides the player with different “menus” displaying similar cars by type. Once the player collects all 3 by completing races, the game goes into the history behind the manufacturers that made the cars and why they designed them the way they did.
I thought this system was odd at first. But as I collected throughout my gameplay I realized how interesting it is learning about the choices which are made around the designs of these cars.
Photomode
One of the cool features within this game is the Photomode. It allows the player to take pictures of the different cars they’ve collected. And you can change almost anything while taking these photos. You can change the background, time of day, position of the cars. It’s even possible to change the speed of the cars to make one car more blurry than another. Aside from that, you can change the camera settings like the F-stop, and the Aperture.
Racing
As for the racing in this game it doesn’t disappoint. It’s not easy to win every race, the game makes you work for first place. There are even training courses to teach the players better strategies to win races and gain access to new ones. The biggest thing I’ve taken away from these training courses is to slow down before going into curves. This helps by increasing speed after coming out of turns.
Graphics
When it comes to the graphics , I honestly don’t know how much better they could get. The graphics are amazing, this game looks so good even in first person. It gives detailed looks into the interiors of these cars, showing the speedometer, odometer and more. The weather also looks very realistic.
Gran Turismo Multiplayer
The multiplayer is the only aspect this game is lacking in. The local multiplayer isn’t impressive. The screens are too small, it doesn’t provide a satisfying experience. As for online multiplayer, it usually takes a few minutes to get into a lobby.
Conclusion
Overall, Gran Turismo is a great game. It’s fun trying to improve your racing skill as you progress through the different races and collecting new cars. It also has a tuning shop to customize the different cars you collect. The only thing standing in the way of this amazing game is its $69.99 price. I definitely recommend Gran Turismo 7 to anyone who can afford the steep price tag.
